Over 1.5 million Adults suffer from bed sores in hospitals!
The failure to protect our Elderly from pressure ulcer/bedsores is not any "one" person's fault. It is everyone's fault. And all of us together are going to have to stop it. "We as people" have suffered enough and "we" must care about others suffering. "We as humans" must band together and turn the tide on human Elder neglect in long term care facilities. This page tells the story of how the situation is now and how it has been.....you must learn about this for your own family's sake.
This is my dead father
Unfortunately he was not our pet...
...he was a human being
... he lived 87 years
to be tortured
abused and neglected in a
nursing home.
This hole in his hip is called a pressure ulcer, decubitus or
bedsore.
The white/yellow in the center of the hole is his bone the tissue is gone. He had a feeding tube inserted that kept him alive so that he was mentally alive trapped in a body that would not move and was rotting as he lay on his death bed.
His death bed could have been a bed that would have prevented the skin from disintergrating to the point of bones exposed BUT medicare will not pay for a bed that will prevent this ghastly hole you see in his hip - until he has a hole in his hip. Does this make any sense to anyone why our government would force this on our Elders?
Please let us get together and stand firm with our government that we will no longer stand for this --

My father had a stroke. He was admitted to the hospital. He had another stroke the next day in the hospital and went to Intensive care. In intensive care he went in and out of being in the state of stroke and being himself. In the three days in intensive care he never returned to his pre-stroke self. He remained in a paralyzed state, unable to speak, unable to swallow and did not want to live in this condition. He then had his third and final stroke taking away his ability to function.
He could breathe. That was it.
Because "all" close to him were not aware of bedsore/presure ulcers/decubitus -- decisions were made, with a less than honest doctor, that resulted in my father being subjected to torture.
What happened to my father would never have happened had he been a dog in a Vetrinary hospital and "if" it had happened; the people responsible would be in jail or out of business.
We need to demand of the following and tell them all we will no long tolerate what they are allowing to happen to our ELDERS:
Medicare, Congress, Insurance Companies, Nursing homes, granted groups that have wasted millions of dollars researching the bedsore, medical supply companies, drug companies,doctors, nurses, CNA's, caregivers, relatives of thepatient, Mayors, Govenors,
priests, pastors, social workers, chaplans, you and me and our society at large. We must drop our"throw-away mentality" when it comes to our Elders.
FACT: Good care "is not a reality" for the immobile Elder in long term care facilities. Statistics prove that the immobile will develop pressure ulcers. It is a common FACT that our Elderly die from dehydration and starvation in long term care facilities simply because there is no one there to help them get enough water and food.
FACT:
Medicare will NOT pay for the bed that would have prevented the flesh from rotting until AFTER the flesh has rotted.
Would we do this to a pet?
FACT:
Doctors,nurses,CNA's see these pressure holes daily in nursing homes and long term care facilities. President Bush signed into law before he left office that the yearly government inspections of long term facilities legally hide how many pressure ulcers they had at their facility for the year. When you are chosing a facility you can not know now if they had 9 pressure ulcers or 2 last year.
We must get this reversed so that the public can once again view the inspection results of facilities.
Fact:NO ONE working at any of these care facilities is going to report these grotesque wounds to anyone outside the long trem care facility... for fear of loosing their jobs or being whistle blowers. And I do not blame them in the least.
